Double T Diner Catonsville DESCRIPTION: I am very disappointed in the Management style, service, and the floor manager at the Double T Diner in Catonsville. I went in there and had a very nice meal, although one member of our party was quite disappointed with her dish, the other dishes were fine. The waiter, however, seemed to have trouble remembering to wait on us when we asked him for anything out of the ordinary, like a second cup of coffee or a take out box. He had to be asked repeatedly. This type of service, although not bad enough for me to feel like I need to complain about him to the manager, does warrant me not necessarily tipping him as well as I otherwise might. Imagine my surprise when I found out that that right was taken away from me. Like I was supposed to know when I sit down that the service will be bad or good so I can decide if I want to stay or not. All parties, not just large ones, are forced to pay a 15% tip (which is rather high for bad service). Plus tips are a way for some people to let their waiter know if they feel they recieved good service or not. This policy did perturb me and still does, I should not be forced to tip someone. So I went to the manager of the floor, who was extremely defensive and OFFENSIVE. He would not give me the name of the supposed manager, (which I was told by another employee he was). He just told me his name is Mike (do you know how many Mikes there are in this world) and he's in a meeting and I would have to wait for him if I wanted to talk to him. This was 10:00 at night, with no idea how long this "meeting" would take so I said I can't wait. What is his full name, so I can come back and ask for him. I could not get that. I also could not get the name (either first or last) of the floor manager I was speaking with. He was extremely rude to me and VERY unhelpful and pretty much told me that I would have to know that my service was bad before I sat down so he could do something about it, but the fact that we had finished was too late, he couldn't do something. RIIIIIIIIIGHT! Needless to say, I will not darken those doors again. But I do feel this matter should be addressed. Since I have no other venue, since no other means of speaking to management is available and it must be policy to hide management name (probably because they don't want to hear it if people are unhappy, only those that are happy are welcome) and they don't seem to care if they loose business because of less than adequate employees, I feel like I should warn other people of the way customers are treated if they are not satis DATE: 2004-04-29 FOODRATING : 4 SERVICERATING : 2 AMBIANCERATING : 6 OVERALLRATING : 2
AWFUL SERVICE DESCRIPTION: My husband and I decided to try the Double T Diner one night and were very excited about finding a place that seemed to have home style cooking. Unfortunately, that is where it stopped. From the moment we walked in we were treated horribly. Our waitress took forever to come to our table and get a drink order, and was quite rude and seemed completely dissatisfied to be working there. When our food arrived, the waitress spilled part of my dinner on me and did not even apologize! She just huffed and walked away. My husband said he would in no way tip her. Then we found out that the 15% tip was already added into our check. My husband complained to the manager and he pretty much told him, 'oh well, nothing I can do about it'. We will never be going back there a DATE: 2005-05-23 FOODRATING : 4 SERVICERATING : 2 AMBIANCERATING : 6 OVERALLRATING : 2

A Lesson in Discrimination DESCRIPTION: I attempted to eat at the Double T Diner on Rte. 40 over the weekend, but ended up leaving after being harassed by the staff to the point of nausea. I was made to feel like garbage because of my wheelchair by both the wait staff AND management. When my husband and I got to the table where my friends were already sitting, I was told gruffly by the bus-man, "You gotta move, you gotta move! You in the way!" There was nowhere to move in the over-crowded, non-ADA compliant dining room, and I tried to explain that to him, but he didn't listen. He came back twice to yell at me because of my wheelchair. Of course, he never once thought to yell at the able-bodied man behind me who was sitting in the middle of the aisle, not at a real place at a table, a good three feet from the nearest table. One of the managers then came over to yell at me, and I asked him why he didn't yell at the man behind me instead. He was upset with me, but I explained to him that I'd be happy to move to another table, but not ONE of them was ADA-Compliant/Handicapped-Accessible. He backed off, finally. But by then, I was shaking and on the verge of tears, so we left the tiny, over-stuffed, grimy dining room. But not before my husband explained WHY we were leaving to another manager, who had tried to get us to stay. Despite my husband's calm, quiet, polite tone, the other manager raised his voice, yelling, "Don't be so sensitive! You don't have to be so sensitive about it!!!" I have never, NEVER in my life been told not to "be so sensitive," about my life-long, crippling disorder. I then went outside to cool off, but instead saw a member of the wait staff hanging out with the man who was parked illegally in the handicapped loading zone, admiring his (unlawfully, thoughtlessly parked) Harley Davidson motorcycle. She then asked him to go around back with her to "go smoke." Soon after, the air was pervaded with a smell that, while I can't place it, was NOT tobacco. The management would NOT ask him to move, nor take any action against him, or the others parked illegally in all the federally-required handicapped parking places. It seem the actual LAW is of no issue to the staff and management at the Double T Diner, just chasing away and discriminating against the disabled patrons that want to be treated like human DATE: 2006-03-14 FOODRATING : 2 SERVICERATING : 2 AMBIANCERATING : 2 OVERALLRATING : 2 RECOMMENDED DISHES : The Exit Sign was fabulous.
We LOVED it! DESCRIPTION: My wife and I (both doctors who SHOULD know better than to eat so much "comfort food") dined at the Catonsville Double T on Saturday, April 15, 2006. The waitstaff was extremely courteous and the service was prompt and friendly. Although the food was certainly not gourmet cuisine . . . it was good American comfort food, and we thoroughly enjoyed the change. We could only eat about half of our meal (after filling up on the delicious salad, soup and bread!) so we were politely offered a "to-go" container and bag. Our ONLY problems with the Double T Diner are (1) the menu is WAY TOO LARGE, making choosing difficult, and (2) we DO NOT appreciate the gratuity being "automatically" added to our check . . . the amount of the tip is OUR decision, NOT Double T management's. I must say, that as much as we enjoyed the food and courtesy, we are STILL fuming about this "management" policy. After we cool off, we MAY try it again . . . we saw a burger plate that looked DELICIOUS!
