DESCRIPTION: It has been several years, but I can still remember the taste of the "best catfish" I have ever put in my mouth. I even wanted to take the leftovers, but since we had an early-morning flight to catch to Maui, my husband would not let me take it. I still harbor resentment toward him for that! Don't miss it if you get within one hundred miles of the place!

DESCRIPTION: A group of 5 adults and 2 teenage girls came to this place last year. Although the food was good and the service fine we all left hungry. They do not put enough food on the plate. I only weigh 117 lbs and I ate everything on my plate so I know that the 2 grown men left hungry. Since that time I have told people when this name comes up not to go because they will not get full.

One of those great local places....
DESCRIPTION: When traveling, I always like to experience the food recommended by the locals....and boy, this it IT! I had the seafood platter...thin fried catfish is outstanding...the rest was super, but WHEN I get back to Middendorf's I think I'm going for all catfish. The sweetest, most polite lady took care of me.... A+++ in all regards. The reviewer who claimed not enough food to get full must have been eating somewhere else. I was stuffed!

The Best Fried Thin Catfish in New Orleans
DESCRIPTION: Ok, so its not in New Orleans, but take a little trip to the north east and you'll find a restaurant in the middle of nowhere that has the best thin fried catfish anywhere. A good size serving with fries, though too much fries sometimes, and fried catfish where you can test the fish and not just the batter.

DESCRIPTION: Well I had been looking for work for so long and I was friends with the owner's neice and it was Father's Day so they needed a lot of help so I was very eager to help them out and when I got there I could not believe it. The place was very clean, the food was so great and all of the waitresses, busy girls (I was one), cooks, and all of the other employees were so friendly. It was the funnest day I had ever had and I am hoping that they need more help because I love it there. It's like my 2nd home.

DESCRIPTION: When out-of-town guests arrive, our first stop is Middendorfs. When we get together with friends locally, it's Middendorfs. When we just want excellent thin fried catfish - it's Middendorfs. Dress casual and enjoy the view. Friends from Vermont arrive next week - guess where we're going for dinner?

Disappointed
DESCRIPTION: Never thought I would ever write this letter. Always bragged that in 50 years of dining here I never got a bad meal. Well, I did. Instead of the usual light crispy fish, it was plastic like and chewy. The slaw, which is average at best, was sour tasting and the serving of french fries was miniscule. I asked for exta tartar sauce and got two which used to be the standard amount. When I questioned the elderly waitress about the matter she picked up the check to see how much I had tipped her before responding in a negative tone. Soft shell crabs are done in an amateurish fashion and the gumbo is watery and nondiscript at best. I am so sorry to write this about one of my previously all time best restaurants but the truth is the truth.

Probably the best catfish I've ever had!
DESCRIPTION: I had the basic catfish and fries, which were excellent. The fish is sliced thinner then usual (1/2 cm) and breaded, giving it a different tase. The atmosphere and service were also great!

Best fried catfish on the planet
DESCRIPTION: I'm from the town of Livingston, LA although I now live in Annapolis, MD (good seafood as well, but definitely NOT South Louisiana). I make it back to South Louisiana about once a year and I NEVER MISS a trip to Middendorf's. I grew up about 30 minutes away, but even though I'm much further away now, it's never far from my thoughts. Their specialty, thin, crispy fried catfish that melts in your mouth is the best you will ever taste. REAL seafood platters. The best crabs on earth come from South Louisiana and they have some. Friendly service, clean dining area and good prices, to boot. DO NOT miss it if you're ever within a hundred miles.

Middendorfs
DESCRIPTION: Middendorf's is a great place to take family and friends to eat, we are greeted with a smile and a friendly face, some times we may have a small wait if they are real busy, but usually we get in pretty fast. The waitress, even if she is busy gets to us guickly, we don't have to wait a long time like most restaurnts we have eaten at. The thin catfish is great, but I prefer the Stuffed Flounder or Soft shell crabs, they are wonderful. If you like seafood and a pleasant atmoshere, with an attentive, polite waitress then Middendorf's is the place.

It's wonderful!
DESCRIPTION: Living in New Orleans, we're used to really good food. I always get the soft shells at Middendorf's. They're the biggest and the best I've had anywhere! I do wish they'd serve more lemon and tartar sauce without my having to ask for it but they always bring plenty more with a big smile. My husband adores the crawfish cakes. Says they're the best he's ever had. We've never had a bad or mediocre meal there. Their cole slaw is the only kind I'll eat. I love it. The french fries are the real thing. So good!

Always Happy
DESCRIPTION: Everytime we go, which is about twice a year during the winter, we always bring a couple along with us. We have never had a complaint and everyone always brags on this place for months. We even took one of the worst critics we know, my dad's girlfriend, and she had nothing but great things to say. Our only complaint is it is too far, it takes us about an hour and a half to get there. We leave Houma for this special trip only to eat at Middendorf's. THE BEST CATFISH ANYWHERE! As far as the service, it's almost too quick. We usually can't finish our drink or salad before the food get there. You get the best rating from the Pontiffs from Houma.

DESCRIPTION: After a trip to New Orleans for a funeral, our family there recommended Middendorf's before we went back home. The catfish was the best I have ever had! We all cleaned our plates and yes, we were all stuffed! We can't wait to go back. It is worth the drive.

DESCRIPTION: Middendorf's is every thing you have ever heard and more. What is not to like! The thin catfish is just one of many great dishes on the menu. I go because I think it's great and I always try and take a friend who has never been before. I look forward to my next meal when I pass through Manchac.

Love the seafood
DESCRIPTION: Middendorf's is the kind of place to go to when you want a change in food. The seafood is great. The thin fried catfish is my wifes favorite. I love the fried flounder but you can get it broiled or stuffed also. The atmosphere is country at it's best, right on the water of Bayou Manchac. They actually have 2 restuarants side by side and either one is a joy to go to. It is crowded some time but well worth the wait.
